Take a moment and imagine your new deck. Will it be used as a space for family time? Will it be used to entertain friends with a dinner party? Will it be connected to an outdoor kitchen? Or, perhaps you’re more of the type who would prefer to lounge poolside while catching some rays.
What will you use with your deck? You could use a hot tub, a jacuzzi, or a fire pit. You can have outdoor speakers integrated to pipe in your favorite tunes, television to watch the game or perhaps you’d like to have some beautiful accent lighting. The only limit is your imagination, and we say let it run wild.
When you’ve returned from cloud nine, it’s important to remember that the intended use of your new deck is a key consideration in its design. Having a clear idea of what you want to use it for will help both you and us immensely in the design process.

For most decks in the Orange County area we recommend the Life Deck® AL-Flex ICC-ESR 2701 or Life Deck® AL-UT (Acrylic Lath Under Tile) Waterproof Decking System is the industry-leading Class “A” Fire-Rated resistant system for plywood decks. The system is installed with a series of 2 cementitious applications bonded together with a specially formulated acrylic emulsion and sealed with a 100% acrylic top coat or heat reflective deck coating. The first cement application is installed over metal lath, followed by an embedded fiberglass chopped strand and 1589 waterproofing resin, a decorative texture finish, and coated with our 10 or 28 Series color sealer.
Life Deck® Systems were developed by chemists, applicators and industry leading professionals and designed for both commercial and residential uses. It is an industry leader in longevity and durability.
Deck railings are an essential part of your deck, making it both functional and safe to use. While deck railings and handrails can certainly add polish, personality, and a distinctive touch to your deck, their primary function is to prevent slips and falls when climbing deck stairs, as well as provide a safety barrier on elevated portions of the deck. Deck railings can be made from a variety of materials, including wood, composite, metal, or even glass. Styles can range from modern cable to a simple rustic deck railing or ornate curved railings.
Like decks themselves, deck railing systems must also meet specific codes set forth by the International Residential Code (IRC). This code requires guardrails to be at least 42” high. To protect children and pets from falling between balusters, the space between balusters should not be large enough to allow a 4” sphere to pass through.
When designing your deck, keep in mind your intended uses and discuss with us which railing materials would best accentuate your overall outdoor space.
